Sunrise at Fort Myers Beach
Have you been to Fort Myers Beach if you haven’t walked along its namesake? It is not only one of the most famous beaches in the state but also the entire country. Sunrise is surely one of the best times to walk its white sandy beaches. It is here that you can enjoy a plethora of watersports, including kayaking, parasailing, hopping on a jet ski, and so much more.
Get a Coffee at Tuckaway Cafe
Located right off of Fort Myers Beach is one of our favorite spots for coffee - Tuckaway Cafe. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted and treated as family. Be sure to get here early - they can get so busy as to have an entire line weaving out their front door! We highly recommend keeping it simple with an espresso-based coffee paired with one of their famous bagel sandwiches, which they steam so that it is hot, chewy, and delicious.
Head to the Sanibel Lighthouse and Pier
Head over the bridge, roll the windows down, and enjoy the saltwater smell while on your way to Sanibel Island. One of this 12-mile island’s most noteworthy stops is found on the eastern end - the Sanibel Lighthouse.
Construction of the lighthouse began in 1884 for $50,000 and only took a few months to complete. Back in the day, a lighthouse keeper had to walk up an external spiral staircase to get to the top and maintain it, however, the lighthouse became fully automated in 1949. The lighthouse was later given to the city of Sanibel in 2004, and restorations began in 2013 to be the beautiful structure that it is today.
While you are checking out the Sanibel Lighthouse, be sure to stop by the nearby beaches and Sanibel Pier. These are great destinations to lookout for wildlife, including dolphins!
Get lunch at the Sanibel Sprout
Grab lunch at Sanibel Sprout before hitting the beach. Sanibel Sprout is the go-to spot to indulge in everything from Açaí bowls to paninis, burgers, and more. A tropical backdrop surrounds the outdoor patio of this vegan cafe with a welcoming, casual vibe.
Spend an Afternoon on Turner or Bowman’s Beach
Turner and Bowman’s Beach are one of Sanibel Island’s greatest treats. Of course visitors to Florida need to spend an afternoon soaking in the sun and swimming in the calm Gulf of Mexico.
Catch Sunset at Fort Myers Fishing Pier
Arguably the best spot to watch sunset in Fort Myers Beach is at the Fort Myers Fishing Pier. It is the most popular spot for fishing in the area. The pier extends 560 feet into the Gulf of Mexico and provides visitors with stunning views of Sanibel Island and Fort Myers Beach. Be sure to stock up on souvenirs on the pier to take a bit of Fort Myers Beach home with you!
Shopping, Dinner, and Drinks in Downtown Fort Myers Beach
Did you know that Fort Myers Beach has its own Times Square? It’s less crowded and flashy than the one in Manhattan but lovely all the same. Shopping venues, restaurants, and entertainment await you. It is hands down the best spot to people watch, listen to live music, and grab a drink or two.
The shops in the Times Square Bazaar sell everything you absolutely must have while you’re in that free-spending vacation frame of mind. If you are keen on emptying your pockets, be sure to also stop by the Fort Myers Myers Beach Plaza!
If you’ve built up an appetite during your shopping spree, grab a bite at some of the best dining options the city has to offer. You can never go wrong at Shucker’s or Nervous Nellie’s, where the cocktails are strong and the views of the Gulf can’t be beaten.
